Project type
Empowering Young People with Lifesaving Skills: First Aid Training for Thrive Together Support Aberdeen
Date
1st July 2026
Location
Aberdeen
At Go To First Aid Training, we believe that everyone should have the confidence to respond in a first aid emergency, regardless of their age or background. We were therefore delighted to have the opportunity to deliver a one-hour first aid class for Thrive Together Support Aberdeen, providing a group of young people with practical lifesaving skills that they can use in everyday situations.
The session was specifically designed for young people aged 16 to 25, with the content tailored to the types of incidents they may encounter in their daily lives. Our aim was to equip them with practical knowledge, build their confidence and help them recognise that they have the ability to make a real difference if someone needs first aid.
The training was delivered on-site in a relaxed, supportive environment that encouraged participation and discussion. Throughout the session, everyone had the opportunity to practise essential first aid skills and ask questions, helping to build confidence through hands-on learning.
The class covered a range of important topics, including:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
The recovery position
Choking
Burns and scalds
Wounds and bleeding
Stings
Although the session lasted just one hour, it gave participants valuable practical skills that could one day help save a life. We firmly believe that even a basic understanding of first aid can make a significant difference during those vital first few minutes of an emergency.
Practical Learning That Made a Difference
One of the most rewarding aspects of the session was seeing how engaged everyone became as they practised the different techniques. The practical nature of the training helped participants develop confidence while learning skills that could be applied in real-life situations.
The feedback from the group was extremely encouraging. Participants told us that they particularly enjoyed learning how to help someone who is choking, practising bandaging techniques, understanding how to treat burns and scalds, and learning how to place an unconscious casualty into the recovery position.
Many also commented that they valued learning how to help someone in distress and felt that the class had given them practical knowledge they could use if faced with an emergency. One participant summed up the importance of first aid perfectly by saying:
"It was very useful. More people should have an awareness of first aid to help others."
Comments like these reinforce why we are so passionate about delivering first aid training. Every person who gains these skills has the potential to help a friend, family member, colleague or even a stranger when it matters most.
