Supporting our community: First Aid training for Aberdeen South Church

At Go To First Aid Training, we believe that first aid knowledge should be accessible to everyone. We were therefore delighted to recently deliver a three-hour practical first aid class for members of Aberdeen South Church in Torry.

The session was organised following a request from leaders involved in a variety of church activities who wanted to gain practical first aid skills that could be used within their community. The training was delivered on-site, allowing participants to learn in a familiar environment while focusing on situations they may realistically encounter during church events and activities.

The course was tailored to support volunteers involved in the Boys' Brigade, Girls' Brigade, children's summer camp, children's drama group, Women's Guild, as well as those helping during regular church services. Topics included:

Calling for help in an emergency
Assessing risks and keeping everyone safe
Managing external bleeding, minor cuts and nosebleeds
Treating minor and serious burns and scalds
Recognising and managing fractures, including the application of a sling
Recognising the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and stroke
Helping someone who is choking
Responding to asthma and diabetic emergencies

As with all of our training, the emphasis was on practical, hands-on learning. By practising techniques and discussing real-life scenarios, participants were able to build confidence and develop the skills needed to respond effectively should an emergency arise.

One of the highlights for us was the fantastic level of engagement throughout the session. Everyone participated enthusiastically, asked thoughtful questions and fully embraced the practical activities. Feedback from attendees was extremely positive, with participants commenting that they particularly enjoyed the practical demonstrations, the relaxed learning environment and the opportunity to ask questions throughout the session.
