We recently had the pleasure of working with the newly established Torry Men’s Shed in Aberdeen, delivering Basic Life Support (BLS) and AED training to their members.
Men’s Shed is a fantastic initiative focused on reducing loneliness and social isolation by bringing men together in local communities, while also supporting mental health and wellbeing.
It was great to be invited along to one of their sessions and deliver some practical, hands-on training. The group worked through the key life-saving skills of CPR, using an AED, managing choking, and placing someone in the recovery position.
What stood out most was the level of engagement and openness from everyone involved. Feedback like “it took the fear out of doing something wrong” and “you delivered exactly what we needed with older members in a way we fully understood” really highlights why this kind of training matters.
For us, it’s not just about ticking a box—it’s about building confidence, making skills accessible, and helping people feel ready to act if they ever need to.
A big thank you to the group for the warm welcome. It’s a privilege to support initiatives like this and play a small part in strengthening safety and resilience within the community.
